Election Results Continuing to Come In

More than a week after the midterm elections, some races remain too close to call or are going into recounts. Democrats in the House have gained at least 33 seats for the 116th Congress, bringing their total number of seats to 228, while Republicans are currently at 198 seats. Nine House races remain undecided, with the New York Times reporting that four of them are leaning Democratic, while Republicans are expected to prevail in the remaining five.

In the Senate, Republicans are hoping to expand their majority to 53 seats (assuming Republicans prevail in both the Florida recount and the Mississippi runoff election on Nov. 27). Earlier this week, Democratic Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema was declared the winner in the open Arizona Senate race, guaranteeing Democrats at least 47 seats in the 116th Congress.
