Group Asks for Delay of Vote on Cannabis Banking Bill

A group of leading marijuana legalization advocates has asked the Democratic House leadership to postpone an upcoming vote on the SAFE Banking Act, which would provide much needed protection for banks dealing with cannabis-related businesses. The advocates, including the ACLU, the Drug Policy Alliance and the Center for American Progress, have asked the House to postpone a vote until there is more comprehensive criminal justice reform package, which would include legalization and banking reforms.

The letter states, "We are concerned that if the House approves this bill, it will undermine broader and more inclusive efforts to reform our country's marijuana laws." The bill was scheduled for the floor next week.
