FSMA Section 204(d): Barcodes, Scanners and Guidance Suggestions

The third installment in CDA’s exclusive webinar series on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) focuses on the different kinds of barcodes and scanners that distributors will need to utilize to track incoming and outgoing food products to comply with the FDA’s FSMA Section 204(d) regulation. In addition, the webinar will list a series of guidance suggestions that distributors can undertake now to begin preparing for the implementation of the food tracing requirements.


Tom Briant joined the Convenience Distribution Association (CDA) in January 2024 as a policy advisor. In this role, he specializes in federal regulatory issues regarding tobacco products and food traceability.

In addition to his role with CDA, Briant serves as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Wholesale Marketers Association, a role he has held since 1989. The association works on state and federal tobacco-related issues.

Briant received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1981 and his Juris Doctor Degree from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1984.
