House Likely to Take Step on Farm Bill This Week

This week, the House of Representatives voted on a motion to form a conference committee, the first step in coming to agreement with the Senate on the 2018 Farm Bill. A conference committee is composed of members from both chambers, and is tasked with reconciling the differences in the two texts. Provisions concerning the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are likely to be a major point of contention during negotiations. The more partisan House Farm Bill version includes new work requirements for most adult SNAP recipients, while the bipartisan does not address SNAP eligibility. Neither version contains any provisions that would affect SNAP choice. CDA will continue to monitor the progress of the Farm Bill.
