FDA Webinar on the Food Traceability Final Rule
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) held an informational webinar on the recently released Food Traceability final rule issued under the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The final rule is designed to facilitate faster identification and rapid removal of potentially contaminated food from the market, resulting in fewer foodborne illnesses and/or deaths.
During the webinar, the FDA provided an overview of the final rule, including the foods and entities covered by the rule, explained the exemptions from the rule, and discussed the recordkeeping requirements of the rule. Watch the on-demand webinar here.

"FSMA Food Tracing Requirements: A Real-World Example"
This webinar presented an opportunity to explore a real-world example of how a distributor evaluated its state of readiness to comply with FSMA Section 204(d). An “X-Ray,” or examination, of an actual distributor’s operations was conducted to determine what procedures and platforms are already in place to trace the regulated food products under FSMA Section 204(d) and what gaps exist that need attention. This webinar also assisted distributors in understanding how food traceability requirements affect day-to-day warehouse operations from receiving to inventorying to shipping. In addition, food traceability expert Andy Kennedy of New Era Partners explored common challenges that distributors face and provide insights on how to plan to comply with the food tracing regulation.
