Proposed Changes to SNAP Eligibility

At CDA’s recent Government Affairs Committee meeting, held Monday, September 9, at CBDX in Chicago, members of the Committee discussed proposed changes in SNAP (food stamps) eligibility by the Department of Agriculture.

Intended to close off eligibility for SNAP benefits to some recipients of another federal government program, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), the proposed rule would eliminate the “categorical eligibility” of many TANF recipients to also receive SNAP benefits (see here for the Federal Register Notice, and here for a Fact Sheet from USDA).

Given there are varying views among members, CDA will not submit comments to USDA.

However, we wanted to provide the information so that individuals or companies may submit comments, if compelled. Click here for directions on now to submit comments. The deadline is September 23, 2019.
