Negotiations on Government Funding Continue

House and Senate Leadership continue to negotiate on legislation to keep the government funded past the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have come to an agreement to keep COVID relief provisions out of the Continuing Resolution (CR). The White House wants the inclusion of additional funding for the Disaster Relief Fund to support the continuation of the Lost Wages Unemployment Insurance program. The House is expected to vote on their version of the measure next week, but the Senate may make several changes. There is no agreement yet for how long the CR will fund the government. Leader McConnell is pushing a bill that funds the government through the end of December, while Democrats are lobbying for a CR that would last through the Lame Duck session of Congress into the new Congress, into February 2021.
