Senate HELP to Vote on DOL Vacancies

On Thursday, Sept. 29, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee will vote on President Biden’s nominees for vacant positions at the Department of Labor (DOL): Jessica Looman, for administrator of DOL’s Wage and Hour Division; and Karla Gilbride for general counsel of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Both Gilbride and Looman are filling roles that have been vacant for nearly the entirety of the Biden administration. The EEOC’s general counsel post has been vacant since March 2021 when Biden fired Trump-appointed Sharon Gustafson. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he will support Looman after he was instrumental in taking down the previous nominee, David Weil. Read more here.
